Psychology Educator | Experimental Psychology | Cognitive Neuroscience

I’m an experienced psychology educator with more than twenty years of teaching experience across the United States, Europe, and Asia. My academic background is in experimental psychology and cognitive neuroscience, and my teaching has spanned a wide range of areas within psychological science, from introductory psychology and research methods to cognitive psychology, physiological psychology, sensation and perception, psychopharmacology, and graduate seminars.

I formerly served as Psychology Program Head at Northern Arizona University–Yuma, where I taught across the curriculum, mentored students, supported undergraduate research, and contributed to program development and student recruitment.

I’m currently seeking teaching-focused academic opportunities where I can contribute to a collegial community that values thoughtful pedagogy, intellectual engagement, student success, and meaningful human connection.

About Me

I’m an experimental psychologist and educator whose work has always centered on helping students think clearly, communicate effectively, and understand themselves and others through the lens of psychological science.

Over the course of my career, I have taught in a variety of academic settings, including regional universities, international institutions, adult education, and small teaching-focused programs. Those experiences have shaped the kind of teacher I am: flexible, student-centered, intellectually serious, and attentive to the different backgrounds, goals, and life experiences students bring into the classroom.

My teaching is grounded in cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and research methods, but it is also shaped by a broader commitment to clarity, empathy, and intellectual growth. I believe students learn best when they feel respected, challenged, and genuinely engaged in the process of learning.

Much of my career has taken place in smaller academic environments where faculty are asked to teach broadly, mentor closely, contribute to program life, and support students both inside and outside the classroom. I have found that work deeply meaningful.

Teaching

My teaching is rooted in clarity, structure, active learning, and human connection. I design courses that help students understand psychological science, think critically about evidence, and communicate their ideas with confidence.

Over the course of my career, I have taught 29 different psychology courses across multiple areas of the discipline, including introductory psychology, research methods, statistics, cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, physiological psychology, sensation and perception, psychopharmacology, social psychology, personality, health psychology, adult development and aging, and graduate seminars.

I have also supervised undergraduate research, independent study, dissertation projects, graduate student research, and thesis and dissertation committee work. Mentoring students has been one of the most meaningful parts of my academic career.

My goal as a teacher is to create classrooms where students feel respected, supported, and challenged — and where psychological science becomes something they can use to better understand behavior, relationships, culture, health, learning, and themselves.
